Monique Scott is an experienced trial attorney who began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Office of the State Attorney Thirteenth Judicial Circuit for the State of Florida. As a prosecutor in Hillsborough County, Monique successfully litigated numerous jury trials, non-jury trials, depositions, and argued countless substantive motions. During Monique’s Tenure at the State Attorney’s Office she practiced in a variety of divisions including the County Criminal Trial Division, County Criminal Domestic Violence Trial Division, Violation of Probation Division, Drug Division, Circuit Criminal Felony Division, and Economic Crimes Unit. The versatility in Monique’s tenure as a prosecutor is exemplified in her experience prosecuting a variety of criminal cases from DUI’s, Traffic, Misdemeanor Offenses, Family/Domestic Violence Offenses, to White Collar Crimes, Drug Trafficking, Firearm Charges, Violent Felony Offenses, and Punishable by Life Felonies. Additionally, Monique’s experience as a prosecutor has made her knowledgeable as to the qualifications for sealing and expungement of records and admission requirements for many of our local drug and mental health rehabilitation treatment centers, diversion programs, and problem solving courts such as the Veteran’s Treatment Court, Drug Court, and Mental Health Court. Furthermore, Monique has appeared before a variety of judges, which has afforded Monique the opportunity to observe and adapt to different judicial philosophies, temperament, and strategy.
As a Tampa native Monique has had the opportunity to build strong ties within the Tampa community and surrounding counties. While attending the University of South Florida, Monique obtained an internship with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit where she had the unique opportunity to learn first hand the importance of recording a crime scene, was able to observe and respond to emergency calls, learn the necessary steps taken to gain control of a crime scene, and the proper chain of custody procedures as it relates to the collection of physical evidence. Upon graduation Monique was offered a competitive internship opportunity as an Investigator with the Public Defender’s Service in Washington, D.C. Duties included performing field investigations, locating and interviewing material witnesses, interviewing clients at the local jail, preparing courtroom exhibits, and attending pre-trial and trial proceedings. Upon returning from Washington Monique was selected by the Tampa Police Department as a scholarship recruit. Monique successfully completed the Police Academy, passed the state exam, and was sworn in as a police officer with the Tampa Police Department.
Combined the knowledge and experiences obtained have provided a unique prospective of the legal system and transformed Monique into a zealous and resourceful advocator whose presence commands the courtroom. Monique demonstrates and is well known for her passionate work ethic, conviction in the analysis and application of the law, and an unbending determination to seek justice.
